The 2nd of June is celebrated as sex workers’ rights days by many individuals and organisations all over the world. This year to celebrate this anniversary sex workers from Europe and beyond will gather in Lyon and organise, protest and demand, louder than ever, an end to their stigmatisation and criminalisation.
To mark this year, Sex Worker Open University – a collective of sex workers based in UK – is launching a poster competition with a 1st prize of £250. This competition is open to all: artists, students, graphic designers… The theme is : 40 years of sex workers’ activism!
We are inviting all participants to send their designed poster by PDF before the 20th November 2015.
Art can be a powerful medium to inspire ideas and people and to create change. And we want to harness this power to support our struggle for sex workers’ rights! We are looking for art that will motivate and inspire us, that will show the strength and beauty of our movement whilst highlighting our connections with many other social movements – from women’s rights to economic justice, LGBT rights to migrants’ rights.
We will print out 1000’s of the winning poster, publish all the chosen finalists and make them available for you to download and print out.
To inspire you, we have created a Tumblr where we will upload striking images and videos, inspiring texts and articles illustrating the sex workers’ movement.
If you were asked to design a poster that illustrate the struggle for sex workers’ rights, what would it be?
Competition entries will be judged by our panel of sex workers
